A lot goes in to preparing for a race. There is of course the training. The miles and miles that have to be put in leading up to a race. Then there is the mental preparation. I often spend time visualizing myself running the race. I ask myself the following questions: What time do I want overall? What pace should I run my first mile, second mile etc. in order to achieve this time? What will the race conditions be? Is this a race that I just want to complete or do I want to try and set a PR (Personal Record)? The next step in preparing for a race is what to wear and what gear/fuel will be needed. Tomorrow I am running a 5K. The weather will be much warmer than usual. The race is about an hour from my home. So I will need to prepare everything today. I will set out my clothing, and my gear including my Garmin and music. Sometimes I will prepare a new playlist specifically for a race.
The morning of the race I will wake up extra early. Eat my usual breakfast and have a cup of coffee. Use the bathroom several times(I try to avoid port-a-pottys at all cost), check that I have everything I need for the day.
I then nervously head off for the start line.
Happy Racing Everyone! I Can Do It, You Can Too!
