Today officially began week 5 of half marathon training. I was excited for today because I knew I would be trying something new. Today was the day I would meet with a trainer. I met with Joe from the Macomb Family YMCA. I was a little nervous because I knew that he was going to have me doing things other than running (other than cardio). I have not lifted weights since before my pregnancy in 2012. So it has been nearly 2 years and no weight training.
Right away he helped to put my mind at ease by listening to what I wanted to accomplish in my training session and then building a session around that. Since I will begin swimming again in April (for Triathlon season) I really wanted to work on my upper body strength. So we did a lot of exercises that worked my bicpes, triceps, and delts. He also was sure to add in some core and stability work.
It was a nice session. When I was finished I did miss the usual endorphins that i get from running and next time I will be sure to run a few miles before or after but I would really like to add some strength training into my plan 1-2 times a week.
